As part of KPS’s Transition Program, our Grade 4 students attended an information session about one of our local secondary schools. Mrs Gurney, from Wallan Secondary College, visited today to talk to students about secondary school.
After watching a movie about Wallan SC (made by a past KPS student no less!), Mrs Gurney answered our questions about high school. We asked questions about uniform, homework, Wallan’s weather, excursions, sport, rewards, consequences and lots of other things. We discovered:
*Most high schools have summer, winter and PE uniforms
*WSC has a similar reward system to KPS’s bee tickets
*There are lots of sports at Wallan, including netball, soccer, rugby and badminton
*WSC has an Athletics Day – just like us
*There is a surf camp in Year 8
We also found out that Wallan Secondary College is getting some new buildings. Mrs Gurney asked us to think of something that would help us learn in the new building and to make it out of play dough. We created all sorts of things, including:
*A gym – we want to be healthy so we can learn well
*An apple – we want to learn about cooking and eating well
*The solar system – we want to learn lots about science
*A dog – we think a furry friend would help us feel happy and want to come to school
*A student wellbeing team – we want to have a team of people who can help us
*A woodwork room – we want to make things
*A microphone – we want a theatre to learn how to perform
What questions do you have for Mrs Gurney about high school in general or Wallan SC in particular?
What would you put in a brand new school building to help you learn?
